| USA :: Health Issues :: Print this Article FREEDOM WINS ANOTHER ONE: McCAIN WITHDRAWS THE DIETARY SUPPLEMENT SAFETY ACT (S-3002) 03-09-2010 6:33 am - John Wallace The free people of America took action and have won another one against big government. Hundreds of thousands of emails, phone calls and faxes poured into the Senate opposing Senator McCain's bill, the bill that would have wiped out current legislative protections for dietary supplements. So many messages were arriving at the Senate that the entire Congress began to notice. Senator McCain eventually met with Senator Orin Hatch, a champion of natural medicine, and told him that he was withdrawing his support for the bill he authored, the so-called Dietary Supplement Safety Act (S 3002). This means that the bill as written is now dead. Hopeful, Senator McCain will not try to offer some modified version of the bill in the future and we have not yet heard from Senator Dorgan, the co-sponsor of the bill. In the meantime, The American people should celebrate. The democratic process worked. The people spoke and Senator McCain heard them loud and clear. Thank God so many people were willing to take time and make the effort to defend natural and sustainable forms of health and healthcare. Although the special interest groups have millions of dollars of campaign contributions to hand out and gigantic lobbying budgets, in the end, politicians have to ultimatley answer to the people. This time the people spoke out loud and clear and they were definitely heard. Congratulations America. |
