USA :: Health Issues :: Print this Article THE HEALTHCARE REFORM THAT WASN'T.... 02-06-2010 7:27 am - Marti Oakley “And lets not forget……this bill is such a good deal…..congress exempted itself from forced participation. And that exemption will be enjoyed by both sides of the isle. Even the Republicans, who just love to say no, didn’t object to that little caveat.”____________________________________________
While I admit health care needs reforming, a tedious read of this monstrosity of a bill reveals that it has nothing to do with healthcare access, but everything to do with cementing the insurance and pharmaceutical corporations death grip on our nation. There is no doubt that health care access in this country needs reform, but as currently proposed, we will all be at the mercy of a government controlled system dedicated to preserving the corporate influence and profit of insurance company’s and big pharma. Corporations own two things: assets and liabilities. Corporations have one duty: to make a profit. Using the “risk assessment models” laid out in the current reform bill, and, using a system of loaded questionnaires each of us will be assigned a “risk” rating. This is a fictitious number that supposedly tells the system whether you are an asset or a liability. Add into this number additional fictitious ratings corresponding to: Pre-existing conditions, and, Your age, Your remaining life span average, Your ability to regain employment on any level and the estimated value of that employment The estimated cost of care vs. your age What your value would be to society if you were cured or survived for X number of years As a hypothetical example: Let’s just say the risk number scale runs from one (1) to ten (10). Based on the phony questionnaires intentionally skewed to render you a liability and force you into the inflated premium category, you come up with a fictionally created number of five (5) which means you could be an asset if you never get sick. (Even with this “asset” rating, your insurance premiums will not decrease and in fact, under this bill, will increase from 20-30%. )
Now, let’s add in a pre-existing condition and let’s say you are forty (40) years old. Add one point for a pre-existing condition which could be a genetic flaw you never knew you had, or You could become ill as a result of pesticide and herbicide overload in your surrounding area The fluoride in your water might have caused cancer The gmo in your food might have damaged your internal organs You may have been prescribed debilitating and toxic pharmaceuticals by your doctor resulting in multiple harmful secondary conditions Your dentist might still be using the mercury laden amalgam fillings in your teeth, or, And the list goes on………. Nevertheless you are now rated at six (6). Your score has now put you into the liability category. Add one point for your age, and another for the estimated chances of cure or the number of years you might survive the illness. Now you are eight (8) and are a “high risk” liability. With a high risk score, your access to all beneficial health care will be limited. What will be provided will be determined on the anticipated outcome and your ability to recover and contribute to society. This reform bill does not cap insurance rates; they can hike your rates up as high as they want to. While ending pre-existing condition exclusions, the door is flung wide open to force you to buy price inflated policies. Not only that there is no restriction or prohibition on issuing riders limiting care or limits that can be implemented at the will of the insurer. There was never any intent to regulate the amount an insurer could charge you. And if you refuse? Hefty fines and penalties. Real reform would have included ending the insurance based method of dealing with healthcare. It would have also removed the liability for business to be the provider of insurance and the collector of, insurance premiums. 60% of all bankruptcies are due to massively inflated medical costs and pharmaceuticals that are approved not by testing and proving the value of the pharma, but rather by the pay-go method employed by the FDA. Simply put: PAY the FDA and GO ahead and sell your poison. No restrictions were placed on corporate stakeholders who have a vested interest in holding the nation hostage to an ill conceived and detrimental system. Add to all of this the tax upon tax, upon tax, upon tax, hidden in this monstrosity and what you find is that the real intent of the entire bill is to; Limit healthcare access Increase premiums Force compliance Raise revenues Eliminate privacy Maintain the same failed system that caused the problem to begin with. Provide mandated coverage for illegal aliens Establish a backdoor REAL ID replete with implantable microchips Population surveillance This is a really handy dandy bill. It will force the implementation of the REAL ID so soundly rejected by the states. It will provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. It will subject us all to data mining and surveillance. It will end any rights to privacy. It will force us to continue to fund the same industries that created the problem, many of whom we were just forced to bail out. It will raise revenues for the corporate government which is flat broke and needs an influx of fresh funds. Think about this: Every corporate stakeholder was allowed to write, or help to write this bill which is clearly in their favor and detrimental to the population. While lobbyists and corporate shills were allowed a seat at the table…….your congressman wouldn’t give you the time of day much less let you in the door to see where the table was. Add into this all the taxes heaped on such as the tax you will pay on the value of your insurance, and the taxes you will pay on the services you access…..both now counted as ”income” and the promised savings quickly evaporate while corporate profits explode. And lets not forget……this bill is such a good deal…..congress exempted itself from forced participation. And that exemption will be enjoyed by both sides of the isle. Even the Republican’s, who just love to say no, didn’t object to that little caveat. The sad truth is, they are going to ram this piece of crap through one way or another, whether we like it or not; whether we want it or not. This is fascism; nothing more and nothing less.
